Spark your Creativity in 2017

During this time of the year, people like to make New Year’s resolutions or goals for the next year.  Why not include creativity into your goals?

Creativity may mean a lot of different things, from getting crafty, to applying “new ideas” to your business plan. No matter what type of creativity you are looking for, you have to have spark it somehow.  So how can you maintain a flow of creative ideas?

Here are some of my favorite ways to spark creativity:

·       Read!  Read the newspaper, books, magazines, etc. New sources of information are great troves of ideas.  Even if you do this only 2 minutes a day, the payoff is great!  Make sure you write down any new inspiration so you won't forget.
·       Listen. To your favorite music, radio program, or podcast and types outside your comfort zone.  We tend to tune out music we normally listen to and focus more on new music.  Keep in mind how these make you feel and what you think about while you are listening.
·       Nature.  You can look at pictures of nature, or go outside and mingle with it.  Listen to it sounds or tracks of it on CD.  When we are exposed to nature all kinds of ideas are formed.  Think of all the different color combinations, the complexity of plants and the process by which everything works.
·       Jot down ideas.  One idea leads to another and before you know it you will have an awesome project or two.
·       Start a bullet journal ®.  These journals help you mark tasks, events and notes in an organized and simple manner, keeping small tasks out of your head.  With a clear head you have time to get creative.  (They allow for a lot of personalization and creativity too). *
·       Brain map.  This exercise will help you see how your mind works and where different thoughts lead you.  Write the first thought in your mind in a bubble, then the next thought connected to it with a line and another bubble, etc.  When you are out of thoughts, look back at what you wrote and you may have other idea bubbles to add to that!

Whatever creativity means to you, remember you are creative because your Creator was creative first.  If we are made in His image, then we are made to CREATE!  So get creative in the new year.
