Artfields: Southeastern Art Competition

Artfields is the most amazing Art Competition in the Southeast.  This competition started in Lake City, SC in 2013.  Darla Moore's love of gardening and outdoor sculptures had her making a sanctuary on her property.  She would invite friends over to see her beautiful manicured gardens and exhibits. Over the years, that morphed into wanting to celebrate art and revitalize her hometown.

The event is a 9 day exhibition, with about 400 works of art on display in many locally-owned venues (restaurants, boutiques, homes and galleries).   The fact that Darla Moore was able to get all the townsfolk on one page about this event is astounding, everyone works together to be hospitable to thousands of guest visiting the town.

Not only is the event fun but the coolest part is the competition with possibilities for $100,000 in cash prizes!

This year we had 5 artists from the CSRA (Augusta, GA Area) that were accepted to the exhibition.  Even though this year we had no winners from our area, I am so proud of them all and want to recognize them.

Artfields Artist from the CSRA

1. Staci Swider

Staci Swider paintings are colorful, somewhat folk art, with a hint of kirky fun.
You can find her on website or on Facebook.

2. Alex Foltz

Alex Foltz is a versatile artist whose paintings go from pet portraits to the exploration of feelings of death.  His work can categorized as contemporary realism and can be fun and/or thought provoking.  His work has been displayed in the 600 Broad Street Art Gallery. See more of his work on his website.

3. Edward Rice

Edward Rice is a nationally known painter.  His work are currently being presented in galleries throughout the US.  His work is detailed and impressive to say the least, he loves architectural and botanical subjects.  You can find more of his works on his Facebook page or on his website.

4. Anton Reed

Anton Reed is hard to find on the internet, but I can tell you that he is a talented African American Artist from viewing his picture at the Art Fields exhibit.  I would love to see more of his work.

5. Yana Bondar

Yana Bondar is a sculptor that explores feminine themes throughout her work.  Her pieces have been displayed at the Gertrude Herbert Institute of Art.  Here is a link to the exhibition.  You can also find other works on her webpage

If you haven't noticed, there is a lot of artistic talent of the Southeast and the CSRA!

Maybe next year we will have more than 5 artists compete from our area.  We will see!

Do you know any of these artists?  Which artist did you enjoy the most?
